His research has been supported by various regional and national grants, including The Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award, The Ruby’s Artist Grant, The MAP Fund Grant, and The Andy Warhol Foundation Grit Fund Grant among others. Working within ceramics, interdisciplinary sculpture, performance art and dance I expand on concepts of hybrid identity and languages, functions and failure, and acts of translation.Using the languages of performance art, dance and objects my work translates ideas physically. There are many things we hope to do, but we are just in phase one, so buckle up, and read on. but, also is dedicated to the sustaining of art practices, in a multitude of forms, through a series of short-term projects. Through open calls, exhibitions, storefront installations, online promotion, documentation, discussion, and direct sales, the mission of but, also is to support all the aspects of an artistic practice that surround the making of art. The flagship and inaugural project at but, also will give artists the opportunity to create profit from an art practice by way of artist-designed merch: posters, tote bags, t-shirts, cups, and other such multiples. Through the concept of merch, artists will have the space to try something new, launch a pre-existing idea, and be part of a series of editionable projects. Following the inaugural project we will expand our offerings / our support of artists beyond direct sales: through professional services such as artwork documentation, marketing and promotion, editing, and website assistance, that benefit and support the sustainability of an artist’s career outside of the studio. DC has robust programmatic support for teaching artists WHAT to do, but a gap in support for HOW and WHERE to do it.
