About the product: Utilitary Artifact for an Alternate Reality is an sculpture that focuses on issues of consumption and social class, challenging dominant power structures. A critique on entities that capitalize on a cheaper labor force in under developed countries but receive the benefits of doing business in highly industrialized countries. It explores ideas of labor and the production of value in our contemporary hyper-capitalist world, by weaving fact and fiction together, highlighting the inherent beauty and absurdity of our contemporary existence.
About the Artist:
Hugo Santana is a Mexican San Antonio based artist, designer, spatial thinker and musician. He is currently pursuing his Master in Fine Arts in Sculpture and New Media from the University of Texas at San Antonio and holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juarez in Mexico. He is the founder of Chronicles of an Impossible
Voyage, a digital experimental audio platform.
Hugo aims to further expand the possibilities of spatial and sensorial manipulation by blurring the limits between architecture, art, music and design through the combination of film, performance, installation and sculpture to explore ideas of labor and borders.
