About the Tote Bag:
My inspiration for this piece was the song “Normal Girl” by SZA. In the song, the lyrics “I wish I was a normal girl” stood out to me when I first listened to it. For me, being a normal girl has always been some sort of emotional baggage for me, but as I grew older, I recognized I don’t need to be just like other girls as I am who I am. A unique individual that doesn’t need to be defined by two words. My intention is to reclaim those words in a positive light. I created this tote bag for other individuals like me to take back those words. When I think of the word ‘wish’, I think of making a wish on a birthday cake. A messy birthday cake with the lyrics sprawled on it creates the feeling of something quickly done. When I think of a normal girl’s birthday cake, I imagine some very fancy cake that all the other girls wanted, but this cake would be the opposite. Those who own this bag can put anything that they want in it, it could be everyday normal items, or it could be the most elaborate thing they can find. Nothing is set in stone. I just hope the individual that owns this bag is their true self and whatever is in the bag represents exactly that.

However, this is the first time that I created a 3-dimensional piece and had it presented to other people.
